Driver's side mirror repair.

by 2002summit on Jan 24 2012, 1:42am

A week ago I was washing my truck. While moving the driver's side mirror housing foward, I heard a "sproiiing" and the mirror pod came loose from its base. I thought I might need to purchase another to replace it. Thankfully, I found Al's (CAPNAL2001) thread on this forum http://www.silveradosierra.com/exterior/side-mirror-problem-t614.html?hilit=side%20mirror#p3099

Al experienced the same issue and later figured out a solution to the issue. Unfortunately, he didn't take pictures during his repair. Fortunately, I did. Al's proceedure was well written, but pictures always help.

Step One: Remove mirror from the pod by tilting it down and to the left, so the lower left corner is at its most inset position. This should allow you to insert your fingers enough to hold the mirror securely. Carefully pull the mirror out. It should release easily.

Step Two: Remove the four Torx headed screws (indicated with red arrows).

Step Three: Seperate the front and rear pieces of the pod to gain access to the spring retainer.

Step Four: Using a hammer, carefully drive the spring retaining ring using a Channel-lock wrench until it seats.

Step Five: Test the rotation of the side mirror pod. If the retaining ring is set properly, it should not pop off.

Step Six: Reverse the taken down proceedure and re-install the foward and rear portions of the side mirror pod using the Torx headed screws. Do not over tighten the screws.

Step Seven: Re-install the mirror onto the side mirror pod by carefully lining up the white plastic screw bars into their respective gear housings.

Step Eight: Clean mirror of your dirty finger prints and enjoy your repaired side mirror.

by DecepticonSilverado on Nov 29 2012, 7:20pm

Hey guys! Since i'm new here and have been building my truck for the past 3 years already I'll just start with its current state, listed below are all the mods i have done to it to date, if you have any questions about the parts i'm running or anything about my truck please let me know! Like most of you its a work in progress, still needs lights, more power and more suspension. ..lol but i make due.

Basics info: Trucks a 2007 chevy 1500 2wd 6.0 LTZ, I bought it off ebay with front end damage so it was way easy for me to make the choice of doing fiberglass, truck has a 4L70 Tranny which i've had rebuilt from all that offroading with an aftermarket servo for stiffer shifting, I had the heads rebuilt a year ago after throwing an engine code do to a collapse lifter, that's when i added the cam, (PRK Automotive in Mesa AZ did the head job). my truck only has 69k miles but i drive the crap out of it so everything that's happened has been pretty understandable.

if you go into my personal gallery and go in the folder for MY TRUCK you can see it in the process from start to finish over the past few years.

Sierra Miss; Original

by sierramiss on Apr 14 2013, 12:27am

Well upon graduating college, I decided that after I got my job, I would reward myself with a new vehicle, so i started truck shopping. After arguing with my Dad, Boyfriend & justifying my wants on the internet, I settled on a new style GMC Sierra extended cab 4WD, in light silver, 5.3L V8 6-speed to haul all my toys. Z71 was a bonus, I didn't really care either way. So i searched & searched & it took me months to find a truck even close to this, so eventually I contacted a bunch of dealers and said, 'This is exactly what I want, first one to find it at a reasonable price wins' .... Naturally, the dealer who found it is almost two hours from my house, but I was getting desparate so I went and checked it out. It was exactly what I wanted, drove it, blah blah blah liked it, wanted it. Offered up my trade, 1999 Prizm, they offered me $500 ... so I left. The car only had 95K on it, so I wasn't being ridiculous. They called the next day offered $1,500 I said maybe if you lower your sticker price a bit, but they said no, so I said no thanks. They called a few days later offering me $4,000 for my car, so I said ''I'll be there in two hours!''

Here's the details:
2011 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD
Z71 Extended Cab w/ Tow Package
5.3L V8 - 6 Speed Transmission
18K Miles
$29,400 List

I attached a picture of the day I picked it up -- I can't figure out how to embed the picture into the text.

Sierra Miss; Add Tonneau, Step Bars & Pinstriping

by sierramiss on Apr 14 2013, 12:49am

The first upgrades I put on my truck was a tonneau cover, mud flaps & step bars. All purchased from & installed by Haines Truck Cap, in Kill Buck, NY. The tonneau is from Truxedo TruxPort, mud flaps are molded black ones with no logo, and the step bars are from Luverne Truck. After that, I got pinstriping done by Dennis Nichols, he painted it all free hand in my garage. I decided on Black & Pink and it looks great.

Pinstriping picture is attached.

Sierra Miss; Add Rims, Tires & RC Lift

by sierramiss on Apr 14 2013, 1:02am

After saving all my Christmas money, my birthday money, my tax refund money, and small parts of my paycheck, I could afford the upgrade I had been waiting for! After sifting through the forums & talking to tech guys about wheel/tire fitments & shopping within my budget, I settled on a 3.5" Rough Country Suspension Lift. I got 17" Dick Cepek DC2s from ATO Autosports, and ordered 4 Falken Wild Peak A/T's size 285/70-17.

The excitement that was building as my garage filled with boxes for this upgrade was almost too much!

Installed this past week by Greg's Garage in Gainsville, NY.

Photo attached, I will add more once the weather breaks & its not raining everyday.
