Fender Flares

Permanent Linkby camfire87 on Jul 29 2012, 6:15am

Well it's been about two months now since I got these fender flares, and since I was out in the garage clearing up some space, I figured I'd finally put them on. I ended up painting them black, since the plastic seemed kind of dull. This turned out to be difficult because even after sanding and applying an adhesion promoter, the paint still didn't stick really well...and they ended up being far from perfect. From a distance I think they look pretty sharp though.

My only problem now is that I think I need some wider(and maybe taller) wheels to fill out that hole a little better since it looks a little awkward when viewed head on - but that will have to wait for now.

scuff with a scotchbrite pad with dawn dish soap, use degreaser, tack cloth, 3 coats plastic adhesion promoter,3 coats primer, 3coats metallic colour, 3 coats clear, then wait 48 hours and wet sand with 1200 grit, then rubbing compound and finally polish looks great but should of just let the auto body shop do it for me at probably the same price as it cost me for materials.

I'd called some local shops around here and they were all quoting $500 to paint them up, which is pretty expensive for what I'd be getting out of it...some day when I'm bored I'll probably take them off and redo them properly...luckily for me gloss black looks pretty much the same no matter which can it comes out of!
