Any guesses before you read the article as to who wins ? I expected it to be close, but not a blowout...

I wonder how it would be if GM put that trick suspension in a truck, along with the s'charged 6.2 ?

No offense, but that is a really stupid test in my opinion. I hate Fords just as much as the next Chevy owner, but they pinned up two cars that were in completely different leagues... Of course the Chevy is going to win in that situation. The Chevy has far more horsepower, very wide tires, and much more; it really wasn't a fair test at all. It's a super car competing against the Ford. Not to mention, the Chevy costs like $8k more. They should have pinned up the Camaro against the GT500! That would have been a good test (although, I think the Ford would have won...)

Well first of all you are not testing apples to apples. You have a supercharged car againt a now supercharged car. What the heck! The new Mustang 500 will have over 650 hp in it come 2013.

I suggest that it is more fair than the ZL1 vs. the new GT500, since the Boss and ZL1 are both the top-of-the-line models right now. There's no way that the ZL1 can hang with the GT500 (except it will handle a lot better). Only the two base models for each pony car (RS and SS for Camaro, V6 and GT for Mustang) really stack up evenly; after that, both model lines start to get crazy.

Loved it when I saw this test come out, just recently subscribed to MotorTrend and TruckTrend (that's right they have a magazine devoted to the bigguns).

I would suggest that this test was actually pretty fair. I agree that the new GT500 would have been better though. Still, I would argue that the $8k price difference is rather inconsequential for those that purchase these vehicles, and remember that this was a road course test, not just a standing 1/4 mile drag.

Though the ZL1 trumps the Ford by a lot of HP, the power-to-weight ratios are only around 15% different. This is still huge, but can be more than made up in handling and braking in road racing. In the 60-0 stopping tests, the cars were nearly identical (4 ft difference, could easily have gone to the Ford in another run). This track also featured several multiple apex corners and heavy braking zones. I would love to see video of the driver trying to wrestle that heavy Camaro around the track.

I'd say it was a good win for the Chevy...now bring on the real Mustang in 2013! If the Camaro does falter, Chevy will just have to send MotorTrend a ZR1 to prove who's boss.

That's part of the problem, Blake- like I said before, most Mustangs and Camaros just don't match up, and there's no way in the world you can compare a Mustang to a Corvette. Oh well, it's fun reading material!

Well fair is fair Ford did that to the Chevy truck and made the 5.3L look like a chump and put thier premium truck against the average Chevy. Guess ford now knows how chevy felt when they did the test between the trucks. Ford should have did that test with the 6.2L!!!!

ZR1 vs GT500? I'd like to see that one! Maybe not on a road course, don't know who'd win, I'm not much of a roundy round or twisty kinda guy, but a straight up drag race between these two could be epic!

I don't think a ZR1 vs. GT500 race would be fair... even though the GT500 has 12 more HP than the ZR1, it's advantages stop there. The ZR1 has one of the best suspensions available, it comes with the stickiest DOT-legal tires available, and it will be much lighter than the GT500. Plus, the Mustang still uses a stupid live axle.
