member/JBartoletti/ asked me to help him locate a mystery squeak on his truck tonight, so he stopped by my place and we set to work. First off, WOW WHAT A NICE TRUCK! I forgot what a nice ride GM 1\2 tons have

At first, we thought it was a loose body panel on the bumper, but after taking the bumper apart for 2 hours, we couldn't eliminate the squeak. Joe then suggested it may be the nut securing the top of his new Bilstein shocks, so we tried that. Even though the nut just spun because we couldn't grab the rod protruding through the shock, apparently that was what it needed! Joe's got a squeak-free truck, and I've got some nice pics

Jon...sad to say I don't think that squeak is completely gone. I'm pretty sure I've heard it occasionally since I left your place. It's not nearly as bad as it was, of course. I might try and torque that nut again and see what happens. Maybe I can work some of that magic we found again. I appreciate the help, anyways! I think you did more of the wrenching than I...maybe I'll have to let you drive my truck for a week or somethin' 8-)

Bummer man! I thought we got rid of it for good... maybe you could get that specialty tool from a store, or ask a friendly shop just to tighten that sucker for free.

Spray the bushing with silicone spray.

That might work... the darn thing is a coil-over shock setup, so it's really hard to work on without taking the coil out.

might not be anything close to what you are talking about and maybe the new shocks was the issue...but I had a squeak for a couple weeks which while driving sounded like it was coming from somewhere in the dash but when by the wheel wells it sounded like from the front end somewhere...i got under the truck and located the noise....here my tranny dipstick was almost completely out of my transmission...i jammed it back down and then realized it could move all over the place under the hood..so for the time being I took electrical tape and taped the dipstick to a hose...walla!! no more squeak...just an idea if you have run out of any...I hear it is a big problem on the new body style GMC/Chevy
