Big Brake Kit

Postby Luke300zx [OP] » Sep 02 2011, 10:40pm

I've noticed one of my only complaints with my truck is stopping power. I'm thinking for my side business to custom fab some sort of big brake kit for our trucks.

I'm guaging interests right now so let me know what you all think. Thanks!

I've owned one of each of the past four body-style of Chevy trucks. With each one they have increased the size of the front calipers and drums (where applicable [I coulda swore one of my trucks had 4-wheel disc, but I've been wrong before]). That being said, the engineers at GM are constantly researching and discovering better ways to slow down; quickly, or stop these 3-ton beasts, as well as keep the brakes cool under stress such as mountain driving and inclement weather conditions. I don't know that there is really a need for such a system. However, with relation to those who choose to toss on 20" or greater wheels with humongous tires that need extra attention to the braking system, you may have a slight niche in the market. Just my $0.02.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I'd like to find something that will fit under the stock 17" wheels or other 17" wheels that have improved braking and cooling capabilities. I know that's the #1 complaint with people with bigger wheels is their braking suffers a lot.

Sorry I should've been more specific. NBS = New Body Style, I think it's either 1999 or 2000 to 2006. The NNBS = New New Body Style is the 07+ of the series.

Big Brake Kit is exactly that..a Big brake kit...It's a kit that changes your rotors/calipers to a bigger size for more stopping power.

I would like a big break system to help slow my truck when I'm pulling a heavy load (trailer does not have breaks). However I'm not ready to ditch my 17" rims, and I don't know that you could design a system that will fit. There really isn't a whole lot of room to begin with.

MTP What about EBC pads and rotors, they have different compounds for different uses and have done tests to show they are stronger and stop quicker. I thought about doing them in my old truck.

Edit: The reason I suggested these brakes are they will replace OEM and not require a wheel change. Sorry, not trying to thread jack.

In reply to tdsierraz71, I have put EBC Green Stuff pads and their rotors up front. They do not make anything for the drums in the rear. I have noticed that they do a better job with stopping, and I am pleased with them. I also repleaced the pads on the rear with a brand form Advanced Auto Parts.

I voted yes for my NNBS. My only real gripe is the rear drums, disk would be ideal for the rear. My drum breaks sqeek a little and the they grab, almost like it's not real smooth. I've taken the drums off before and notice the shoes were new but I dont know what kind or quality the previous owner used.
