Brake System Warning Light

Postby john2 [OP] » Feb 14 2013, 1:39am

Brake system warning light stays dimly lit with key on or off. Things done, topped of brake fluid, pulled plug on master cylinder, E-brake and brake pedal. Light stayed on dimly lit. Light gets bright when E-brake is activated and key is on but goes back to dimly lit with key off. Truck has only 20000 hwy mi on it and the brakes work fine.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

I would check the grounding wires for the brake system. Usually when a light stays on dimly it is because something in the electrical circuit is not grounded properly. The electricity will find a way to get to ground. If all of the grounds are good in the brake system, I would check the instrument panel grounds as it could be a backfeed from another system.

Not sure what year you have, but on my '90 I have almost the same symptom and was told to it's most likely my brake switch. On my truck the emergency light blinks rapidly 9x and the once for about a second, then it repeats the cycle. This happens only when I release my emergency brake. When I apply my emergency brake the light is lite constant and is bright.
You may want to google your symptoms and see what links come up.
