brakes/anti-lock

brakes are kind of slipping just before stopping

brakes/anti-lock

Postby bullrider77 [OP] » Jul 11 2010, 2:03am

I have a 2500HD 2004 4x4 when I stop just before the truck comes to a stop and no matter what the conditions the brakes feel like the anti-locks are trying to kick in but the pedal doesn't bounce like it normally does with anti-locks. It is an erie feeling because it feels like truck is not going to stop (obviously it does). Anyone have any similar issues or any suggestions

YES, had the exact same thing happen on my 98 Silverado 4x4. It is your anti lock brake sensors on the front wheels. They aren't bad, They are DIRTY and need to be cleaned off. I did mine with Brakekleen spray but they were very hard to get at, but at least I didn't have to take things apart. They work fine now. Good luck.

Did you also clean up the area on the hub that the sensor picks up off of? That could be dirty or covered in a thick build up of rust. I used sandpaper and a wire brush on mine.

Maybe a dumb question, but what does the ABS sensor look like? Got a diagram or photo that shows it?

It a sensor that has one wire coming off it. It picks up a signal from the exciter ring on the axle. It usally is installed from the back side of the brakes. So it can be changed or cleaned without taking brakes or even the tire off.

You have probably already done this. I would bleed and flush brake system. Some times the fluid can boil and put air in the system.
