Chevy 2500HD Brakes

Postby mikeylikesit5805 [OP] » Jul 26 2012, 1:40am

Hey Guys,

In another thread I mentioned that I was going to do the 100k mile service on my truck. Brakes being part of that. Im going to pull the wheels off and take a look, but assuming they need done (they are squeaking now)

What parts would you recommend? Autozone parts or OEM?

I'm assuming disk in front and drum in rear right?

Any other tips?

I'm not sure if the 2500 has drums in the rear or not. I think they have disk all around. I would use a known brand such as wagner or bendix for the pads/shoes. If the rotors need surfaced I would reccomend replacing them instead of having them surfaced. Usually the house brand rotors do fine (EG Duralast, ETC).

OEM they will last you another 100,000. Aftermarket will probably be at or under min thickness and only last a year or 2. Iv had several aftermarket rotors under spec. I dont use aftermarket anything.

Go with the a/c delco parts they are priced good and holdup well. For the pads use there ceramic we have had alot of noise issues with there metallic. You can pick up a/c delco parts at the dealership and alot of parts houses carry them as well. I see you are in Ohio, whereabouts are you? In the Cincinnati area KOI carrys a/c delco parts, the best prices on them here is a Bills Battery on Crookshank if you are from this part of town.

Yeah, disks all around, in order to handle the abuse a 2500HD takes.
