How long do front brake pads last?

Postby clingcom [OP] » Jun 19 2012, 9:57pm

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra Crew Cab that is just a few miles short of 60,000 miles. I have always been told that the front brake pads should be replaced at 50,000 miles. But my mechanic (a trusted family member) says they are in great shape. How long should I worry myself about them? I am getting a little squeaking first thing in the morning, but that goes away after they warm up.

It all depends on the user. If your hard on the brakes they will wear fast. If your easy going on them they'll last. For instance my mother drive a Nissan murano and is extremely hard on brakes. Needed all 4 changed after 45k. But my dad and his rado is easy on them and he just had his rears changed at 72000

How long do front brake pads last?

Postby Machster69 » Jun 19 2012, 10:57pm

Jus opened my 08 up at 66k and they look new... Some change them @ 40k! Its easy to drop the wheel and pull the lower pin and look at the pads... 1 bolt!
Like he said, just depends on how its driven!

Ive changed a set after 500 miles, but that was on my Subaru on race weekend! However my jeep would eat brakes up about 25k or so, mainly because the on/off road mudding would cause them to wear faster!

My 2003 Silverado has just over 100K and I still have the factory pads. I know a few guys on here have gone over 120K on factory pads.

Was talking to a guy at a dealership. He said the '03-'06's have great brakes. One truck had 280k on the stock pads, but most go around 120k just fine on the factory pads.
