slight brake squeal right before truck comes to stop

slight brake squeal right before truck comes to stop

Postby dalejrfan88 [OP] » Dec 20 2011, 11:32pm

Hello. I was wondering if anyone else has any brake noise with their truck, I have a 07 new body crew with only 30k on it that i bought new. The pads and rotors look great but i get this annoying break squeal right before coming to a stop at slow speed. Everything is fine through the whole braking procedure until the end when the truck is barely moving forward and light pressure is applied. When i press harder on the brakes and come to a quick stop no noise at all. sounds like its coming from the center/rear of my crew where the brake lines conjoin together on drivers side. I put some lube on the brake line clamp and it seemed to go away for two weeks now its back. Was that just a fluke or could the brake lines squeak? Any input would be great! Thanks, Eric

I would think it was brake dust more than the brake line. I have never heard a brake line cause a squeal, unless it was rubbing on something. It would be obvious if it was rubbing by wear marks.

Common problem with the 07 nbs. I have the same issue and has never been resolved from the dealer. The squeak is from the rear drum brakes. My tend to glaze over fairly easily and this causes the squeak. The dealer says that the brakes look and function fine other than the slight glaze. They recommended applying the brakes and driving in reverse every once in a while to "clean up the brake". They refuse to change anything. There are others with 07's that I know have the same problem. Good Luck.

thanks! I wonder if blowing them out with an air hose or something like that would help clean them up. Seems like the squeak is gone after a car wash or when i spray the rear drums with water. Then it comes back at those slow stops! so annoying!!!! New rear brakes must be the only fix

Are those the stock brakes in the back? If you upgraded the material, that might get rid of the squeak.

yes those brakes are still from the factory. only 30k on the truck. Brakes function fine but have that squeak on when brakes are applied lightly rollin forward at tail end of stop

You could take the drums off and lightly use sandpaper by hand to take the glaze off the face of the shoes. Unfortunatly, they will probably glaze back over and start making noise again. I would not use compressed air to clean the brake dust off. I would use a garden hose and spray them off that way. Let them dry, put it back together and it should be fine, for a while.

Thanks for the post. I had a feeling it may be common. Its very annoying under light braking (i.e) going through a drive thru. Do you think new rear ceramic brakes fix the problem? seems like that would be easier than sanding down and deglazing the factory ones.

I don't know if the ceramic ones would help. Sanding them is very easy. It's a lot easier than taking them off and replacing them.
