Strange Brake noise?

Strange Brake noise?

Postby ionicswing [OP] » Oct 02 2011, 6:34pm

I've had a brake noise for awhile now, after i changed my front pads and had rotors turned. The noise sounds just like a low brake pad indicator squeak. It only occurs during very light breaking, anything close to medium or moderately light breaking it does not occur. I've had the rotors visually re checked for any visible defects, and none are seen. Any ideas as to what this may be??

Also the pads were carquest ceramic(pretty decent Pad)

If it's a high pitch squeal, then it's probably being caused by the back of the pad vibrating against the caliper piston. Some new pads have an insulator material already installed, and some come with one to put on before assembly. Some also have no insulator to stop that noise. If that's the case, I've used a blue spray made by Permatex that you spray on the back of the pad and then reinstall. Good luck!

well it is of a high pitch, but its not constant. the sound is not very loud but its noticable. the sound re occurs during light breaking several times and slows with the vehicle as if it is on the rotor it self, if that helps describe it

If it occurs when you lightly put on the brakes and not all the time, then it is what I was referring to in my previous post. Pull the pads and get some brake pad anti-squeal compound at the parts store. There's some you can spread on with your finger, spray on, or even cut out of a sheet and stick on the back of the pads. No matter what, the parts guy will know exactly what you're talking about. Now, go do it! Good luck.
