2005 Chevy Silverado A/C Problems

Postby garthskjr [OP] » Jul 17 2012, 7:11pm

Hi, My 2005 Chevy Silverado's A/C is not working. I went out and bought a recharge kit thinking it was low on freon and when I put the guage on my pressure was extremely high (150 psi). I drained the freon and replaced it with the new freon and pressure shot up extremely fast. I noticed that the compressor wasn't spinning so I spun it by hand and it engaged, the fan started running, and I got cool air. Also, the pressure in the line went down to an acceptable level. I then turned the a/c off and turned it back on. The pressure shot back up and the compressor would not engage again. I spun the compressor 1/2 turn again and everything started working again. I was told that I might have a problem with my relay or a/c switch? A friend suggested that thinking that if the compressor engages when I spin it, it probably isn't bad. Help please!!! It's hot outside.

You need to attach a set of A/C gauges to it to see what both side pressures are. The one pressure alond does not give you enough information.
