A/C issues

Postby joenero79 [OP] » Jul 29 2012, 8:22am

My 06 Silverado went from blowing ice cold air to blowing dessert air. I have checked the charge and it is good. Any suggestions before I spend 300 bucks on a new compressor?

Has somebody added freon to it already and possibly overfilled it? That usually leads to evaporator freeze up and compressor noise. The engine cooling fan (electric on your vehicle I believe) working properly?

Did you put a set of gauges on it and check both the low and high side pressures? If so, what were they? What makes you think right off the bat it is a compressor problem?

No one has added any freon to it. I only assume it is the compressor because it wont engage. I don't have a gauge to check the high side only the dig ac charge kit gauge

If it is low on freon there is a low pressure swith that will not allow the compressor to turn on, preventing it from ruining it due to lack of lubrication. If it is low on freon then it obviously has a leak. I would suggest having someone shoot a can of leak detecting dye and some freon in it to locate the leak.

I really appreciate all the advice!! It was actually a wiring issue. Someone had spliced the wires and didn't do it correctly. Im glad I decided to check the wires leading to the compressor.
