A/c won't cycle

A/c won't cycle

Postby bucketheadben [OP] » Mar 26 2011, 8:37pm

Hi everybody,
I recently bought a 99 silverado. The ac will turn on and blow for about 5 minutes and then it will cut off and not cycle back on untill i cut the truck off, let it cool down and start it up again. I've got power at both pressure switches and i've used a jumper on them but it still won't cut back on. The suction line pressure is in the safe zone on my guage when the system is running. Any advice? Thanks
Ben

Without knowing the gage readings, it sounds like it is freezing up. Has this system been opened and some moisture got in and not properly evacuated? What is the low pressure side reading?

Suction pressure stayed at 30psi until the compressor kicked off. There is a very noticeable temperature difference on each side of the brass nut on the line. I'm not sure if the system has ever been opened. Thanks Gordon

Once the compressor kicks off, is the pressure slow to equalize? Any frost on the lines?

I would say it takes about 30 seconds to equalize. No frost on the lines. It is reading about 45F. A few minutes ago I had it idling in the driveway for about 5 minutes with no problem. Once I reached over and pulled the throttle cable to raise the rpms, the compressor kicked off.

Hi, I'm having the exact same issue on my 2001. It's gradually gotten worse. I saw where you mentioned "sensors". I bypassed the one on the accumulator but I'm curious about where the other sensor is located. Did you ever find the problem?

Thanks
