ac blows hot air after a few minutes

Postby boxcar [OP] » Mar 25 2012, 6:15am

Hello I have a 2005 Chevy silverado 5.3 l.dual climate control after a few minutes of having the air conditiong on both sides blow hot it will blow cold again if I turn the truck off and on. It will also blow cold air with the snow symbol off. I've also notice if I put the metal to the floor to get into to traffic it will blow hot air. Also the warmer out side the faster it blows hot but some times when its cool out side it will not do it. Can anyone help with this?

I see this thread is a little aged, but I'm new and just came across it. I was wondering if you found the problem?

If not might I suggest that you also check your refrigerant level as it sounds like it may be low. Also, don't know for a fact, but when you go to wide open throttle I do believe the AC is designed to kick off to give you max engine power for acceleration.

Replaceing compressor is a last resort (shops will tell you you need to so they can make a fortune) if it was compressor i think you would know it. Anyway simple solution. if you are sure you are not low on refridgerant. then you have to much air in the system causeing it to freeze up after its ran a few minutes. Drain and vac system and simply recharge. Another good rule of thumb, a/c systems run their best when charge at lower ambient temps. 70f is optimal time to do a recharge. of course you can do it when temps are 100f but are harder to get accurate psi readings.
