Adding rear AC to 2012 Sierra

Adding rear AC to 2012 Sierra

Postby YeeP [OP] » Apr 17 2017, 1:58pm

Was this an option in 2012? I am wondering if anyone has taking the time to add the factory parts list up and see what this might run.

Thanks!

No, not available in a Silverado / Sierra... yet.
In fact, I don't believe they even have had rear vents since '06. My '01 had rear vents, but my '15 doesn't.

There are vents under the front seats but thats it. And those are for heat.

I will have to check, but I was under the impression that my buddies 2013 Avalanche has reached ac vents in the back of the center console. Probably wrong, thanks for the response...

Yes, the Avalanche did have rear a/c option. I had an '08 Z71 Avalanche that had them. So I see no reason why it could not be installed on a Silverado/Sierra of the same year. You would probably have to purchase the console and whatever duct work would be needed for it to work. Imagine it could get expensive unless you could source all parts from a junkyard. My '02 2500 HD Duramax had them also.

Yes, the Avalanche's did have rear A/C. However, the Avalanche is based off of the Tahoe, not the Silverado. You may need to look into Tahoe parts for this to work.

Could probably hook up some rear heated seats out of a tahoe too while you're at it. Always wanted to do that.

The rear seat mounts from the tahoe / yukon are different than that of the silverado / sierra. It'd require some serious fab work

Agreed, a lot of work for sure.

I was thinking more of grab the seat heating elements, wiring harnesses, and the console components from a tahoe and install them in the existing silverado/sierra setup.

The rear console control module of the tahoe is very similar to the silverado/sierra but with 2 extra buttons for the seat heaters. Either way this would require some serious effort just for your passengers to have a warm rear end but it definitely would be cool.

I heated the rear seats of my wife's Tahoe. I bought an aftermarket kit that had heat elements and switches. It wasn't too bad to do and looks clean with the switches installed in the back of the console.

Not sure about trying to install the HVAC in the rear.
