Z15 posted this in another thread: A/C Smells like urine
The pertinent part of that post is the description of the "Afterblow" function. It's intended to run the blower motor after shutdown so that the evaporator dries off.
The "afterblow" is a GREAT feature for eliminating problems with mold in the evaporator and collection tray. I use this all the time in my BMW where it's built right into the HVAC/Body controller module and accessible with a single button push. There has never been the slightest odor from the A/C in that car's 10 years.
So, I'd really really like to get this function enabled in my new truck if possible. The information in Z15's post had more to do with dealing with odors already in the A/C system and mentioned the "afterblow" only incidentally. Does anyone have more specific information on this? For instance, on what HVAC controllers is it available? Especially the automatic HVAC in the NNBS, maybe? A TSB number or whatever sort of service document number that would apply would be very helpful.
I'm going to call the service dept at my dealer and pose the question to them. I have no experience with them at all, and have no idea how heads-up they are, or whether they're willing to do some investigation into a customer request. Any other suggestions on where information on this might be available would be greatly appreciated. Service departments in my experience are often more cooperative if pointed in the right direction initially.
