electric cooling fan

Would it be wise to drop the fan and clutch and add an electric cooling fan on a 2009 2500HD? Trying to get a little better mpg.

Your original equipment cooling fan is designed for heavy duty service on a heavy duty vehicle. Replacing that system with some aftermarket item that has not been designed for that type of use is not a good idea. The original fan and clutch does a fine job of cooling "all that iron" as well as being a contributor to better fuel mileage. Do you hear the fan roaring as you drive down the road? If you do, maybe some other factor is causing the engine to run hotter and causing the fan to lock on. Maybe you should do your own fuel mileage test by driving the vehicle at speed and noting the instant fuel mileage. Then remove the fan and retest under the same conditions. Keeping a close eye on the temperature gage of course. My advice is to use other means to help your fuel mileage.
