It's something to do with the blower motor. Safety defaults it to high when there is a problem.

I have a 2006 chevy truck came out that chevy had a recall on years i believe from 03 to 07s for AC/Heater the problem was the resistor mod was getting too hot and it melted some wires to the blower motor resistor
which that is what happened to mine truck. I lost my low settings first still had my high setting 4-5 then a month later lost everything so I called local dealership and they said their was a huge recall for the problem.. and to bring it in and they will fix it for free... and if you taken your truck to any shop for fixing GM will give you your money back if you can prove that you spent money towards that problem....

Where can you find out those recalls?Mine is a 99 so I don't think they will do anything as far as a recall on mine.

one of the instructors at the college told me if anyone had this problem take it to the dealership, 7out of ten times they will repair it. if the wires going to the resister are burnt definatly take it, if its just the resister thats burnt i would say replace it your self, its a 20dollar part and 15minutes to replace.

May as well replace the blower motor as well. They are usually the cause of the resistor going bad. They get old and the bushings/bearings wear, causing it to pull more amps to run, causing the resistor to burn out.

Thanks ASTE25 i'll just save up and buy both at the same time.I never knew that could cause the resistor to go bad.
