Heater hose leak, need your opinion

Postby sliggett [OP] » Nov 03 2010, 5:15pm

Hey everyone, i have a 97 gmc and today i noticed i had a coolant leak on the line that runs from the firewall to the motor. i know the leak is where the hose is crimped to the quick release coupling, NOT on the part that's tapped into the motor(a common problem with these motors from what i've been told). a new one of these costs $42 from the dealership (hose included). i went to my local auto parts store and the guy that owns the place looked at it and sold me a threaded hose nipple and hose clamp and says he'd just replace the quick release fitting with this. this is what we down south call "rigging", lol. anyways, now to my problem. there's a restrictor on the oem piece and i was wondering just how important this piece is? he acts like it's not important and not a big deal but i thought i'd ask you guys and see what you all thought before i went with that route. thanks in advance

I'd go for the right part. Rigging was all good back in the day, but with newer vehicles, I'd go with stock parts as much as possible.
