Hot air blowing in the cool setting

Hot air blowing in the cool setting

Postby dennisinferno [OP] » May 27 2011, 3:32pm

I am having a heat issue with my 2002 silverado. When the temperature setting is in the the cool setting I get hot air. This problem is intermittent. I've done some trouble shooting and discovered that the shutter door that diverts the hot and cold air is moving. The motor that controls the shutter is also functional. This would lead me to believe that the climate control unit is faulty. Has anyone else had this problem. The cost of a new climate control is about $150.00. I'd hate to buy it and find out that is not the problem. Can this part be tested?

Thanks.

I'd also check the pressure of your refrigerant on the low side port just to rule that out. Dooe could be moving as the conpressor kicks on and off due to low refrig. had this issue with my wifes car and still have to patch the leak . . . damn yard work taking all my time

I think GM had a service bulletin on this. Guys?

For now I would take the time and cycle your temp control from full hot to full cold about 3 times a day. Give it about 20 seconds after your command to actually get there. I believe this helps the temperature actuators get back in the proper position and it's free!

I have the same problem. I'm pretty sure it's narrowed down to the heater blend door actuator because I've had a problem with constant heat since the winter time..and then every once in a while after shutting the door off in the beginning of spring the a/c would work, but I think it's completely done now and only blowing out hot air. The compressor is kicking on, so I know it has refrigerant and thats working. Any advice on how to find the right part online to buy it? I can't figure out which one I need on rock auto for my 01 chevy silveardo 1500 5.3...there's too many options! ): and the descriptions aren't friendly to the inexperienced..any advice is appreiated

Izn197, I got similar advise from a Honda mechanic about cycling the temp. control for an issue I have with hearing the coolant gurgling after I changed my intank manifold gasket and got air into the system. I still have to try it. Thanks for the info.

i actually have this problem also but i know what it is but ... you have to take whole dash out to fix problem ... is a bad motor but what you can do is ... turn it to cold and run with a/c run for just a second and reach down on the passenger side and there is a power plug for the motor and unplug it and it will cause it to not get power so i cannont shut and just blow cold air .. ( my automotive instructor helped me diagnose problem )

if you can reach down and un-plug it, than the blend door actuator that you are having problems with is accessible. Just replace it. There's only a few dash panels, glove box, and bottom drip pan that you have to remove. 1 hour max...
