Replacement bulbs for 99-02 hvac controls

Postby country1911 [OP] » Nov 29 2011, 9:07pm

Like the title says I am looking for a link to some replacement bulbs for the hvac controls. I have googled all day and keep coming up with LEDs. I would like to keep the plain old incandescent bulbs as they dim with everything else. I used to have a page saved on my old computer but lost it in the transition. Thanks!

Oh, and radio shack only carried the led bulbs and they were quite expensive.

Subbed to thread for replies. I need to replace 80% of those lights, on the hvac, radio, and steering wheel controls.. I'm not a fan of LEDs in my truck.

I think I found a suitable replacement. I am taking the OEM bulb to radio shack to compare in the morning. I will keep you updated.

Just waiting for the store to open, but here is the link. The reviews give me hope that this is the bulb.

Bulbs purchased and soldered in. They are not as bright as the originals, I think(kind of hard to tell as it is light out) and definitely a little smaller. Oh well, I didn't have any lights before as they had all burned out.

I am starting to think the circuit is a series circuit and I should have used 6volt bulbs. When a single bulb is lit up it is bright, but when the bulbs are lit up on the PCB, they are almost half power... I will pick some up at radio shack tomorrow and see.

Definitely a series circuit. 6volt 25ma bulbs work perfect, looks almost as good as brand new. I have one little dark spot cause the bulbs sit funny.

The 12 volt bulbs that were originally bought worked perfect for the buttons for A/C and defroster.

It is very straight forward, just a couple small metric sockets. I think 7mm and maybe one other?

Sorry for no pics, didn't think of it when I had it apart.
