Sticking fan speed button

Sticking fan speed button

Postby too tall [OP] » Dec 05 2011, 3:34pm

Mine is an 07' NBS Silverado LTZ

The fan speed button is very sticky. I noticed that when pressed it is slow to return to "normal" position eg all the way out vs in. Now that temps are dropping it will press in and will not return to normal until a few mins. later. Something is gumming up the works. Anyone see this?

I am not familiar with the switch you are speaking of but I have found that many times, sticking switches are because pop or other liquid contaminates get between the button and it's sides. Here is a trick I used to do. Take a thin piece of paper and wet it slightly with warm water. Sneak it as far as you can between the switch and it's neighboring plastic and clean. If you want to be more aggressive, you can use an exacto knife. Be careful and precise with your movements while doing this. I hope this helps.

Thanks, good suggestion. Would spray electronics cleaner (contact cleaner) be good to use?

The paint covering on a lot of the buttons today are very thin and that cleaner will possible remove the paint. I am VERY careful using some of the clear antibiotic hand cleaners they have today because I partially removes some paint on my volume up steering wheel control.

Good info. I'll take a go slow approach. Gotta fix this, it's getting cold here.
