whining noise??

Postby chevylikearock33 [OP] » Jul 12 2012, 3:57am

i have a 97 1500 and sometimes when i turn on the blower fan for ac/heat it makes a really loud whining noise from the blower motor i was thinking that it was a bad bearing but if i put it on full blast and the shut it off sometimes it will stop is there anyway to fix this?

It's the tiny bearing in the fan motor. Cant really fix it unless you replace it

whining noise??

Postby Machster69 » Jul 12 2012, 11:17am

Had same issues, and yeh the blower is the cause. Mine did it for months, but then it jus stopped? It would also be super loud when first started, but got quieter as the blower stayed on.

I bought an S10 a while back and made a loud screeching noise when i turned on the blower on any level. So i got aggravated and I flipped it on full blast to I guess punish it for being so loud lol. But it completely quit making noise after that. Most likely you have gotten water or some kind of moisture in the bearing to cause it to rust. You can try to leave it on and see if it quits after a while. But it might also burn the electric motor up from the excess friction in the bearing. Either way Its probably not going to work right unless you fix it the right way

My 97 monte carlo did this and it would only make the noise on settings 1 and 2..if i had it on 3 or 4(full blast) it would go away. My cause was small tiny leave debris that got caught under the cladding above windshield..the full blast mode was enough pressure to blow these little bastards either off or against the motor so no noise would occur..the slow mode would just flap the debris causing the annoyance..this may be totally different since mine was in a car but maybe worth a shot...also if you have a cabin air filter junk can clog in there making vent noises as well

It sounds like the bushing in the blower motor is worn out. I'd say replace the blower motor.

Mine started to do it now too. Sounds like a squeaky gerbil wheel and it comes and goes. Perhaps there's a "how to" article to be written here... Rubs chin.... :?
