Why is my A/C so darn loud?

Postby FuzzyB [OP] » Jun 22 2012, 2:17am

Anyone else notice how loud the a/c is when standing outside the truck while it is running? Or is it just mine? I mean, that compressor is friggin loud. Is this normal in these new rigs...NNBS?

I guess I never really thought much of it but the last few days I have noticed how loud it is. Anyone else have this "issue"?

I think what you are hearing outside of the truck is the e-fan running. Inside it might be loud because it in on recirculate instead of bringing in fresh air from outside. If you hit the top right button of your climate control, it should quiet that down. Hope that helps.

My AC is pretty quiet inside or outside the truck. The blower can get a little noisy on high, but I don't need to run it at that setting often or long. But, as was said, the electric cooling fans are really loud. Even when I am inside the truck with the windows up and the AC on, when at a stop and the fans come on, they are real noticable.

Compressors have always been kind of loud while they are on. Some types are louder than others. I think you have probably just noticed it and now it is just annoying you.

I don't disagree but it's that loud that if I'm standing anywhere near the front of the truck I can't hear anyone that tries to talk to me...it's like a jet engine! It is much louder than my 2000 Sierra was. I guess I was just wondering if this is normal?

I'll bet it is the fan. I believe your 2000 had a belt driven fan.
