Caterpillar Diesel

Postby MGMTF [OP] » Jun 07 2012, 8:10pm

Just curious on what the D-Max owners perspective is about having a Caterpillar C7 as an option in GM trucks. I personally think the Duramax is an amazing engine and I am looking at getting another truck equipped with one. However, I also think it would be cool to have a Caterpillar C7 as an option. What dop you guys think?

It will never happen as Caterpillar no longer makes Diesel engines for trucks or cars, they concentrate 100% on Construction Equipment. Hence why you can no longer get a Cat motor in a class 8 big rig. They stopped about 4 years ago. I know this because my cousin is a marketing manager for CAT!

I just remembered that actually lol. Ya it really sucks stupid EPA. Hopefully they will start making them again. The only options in a Peterbilt now are Cummins and if I bought anything with a Cummins I would feel like I was in some way supporting Dodge (I know there really isn't any connection in that direction) and I know no one on this site wants to do that!

Yeah I leased a Peterbilt 387 in 2007 with US Xpress and it had a Cummins motor in it, I will say when it comes to Diesel Motors they are the best, maybe no the most technologically advanced like the duramax, but one of lowest maintenance diesels ive ever encountered. My truck is in the back of the picture behind the Ford GT

Ya I am (or was lol) more a CAT fan but have a large amount of respect for Cummins. By the way how exactly did you manage to get a picture with a Ford GT, 3rd and 4th gen Mustangs in the foreground? Where you hauling for some Ford sports car convention lol?

i was actually parked for a Car show in Carlisle I was hauling a truck full of Ford Performance parts and Crate motors for sale in Carlisle during the Ford Racing Performance and Track show! It was definitely an Honor. I got to drive a bunch of Ford racing cars, mustangs, GTs, Even a new Concept Focus that was all wheel drive and 500hp. I was there all weekend and got paid $5gs to be there for a weekend. I was the only owner operator in Michigan that had enough hours to make the trip, so I got LUCKY!

I love the CAT engines, they look awesome and perform very well. I see a lot of CAT engines used in the oil industry.

Yeah, but for commercial truck use thy stopped in 2008 making motors for class 8 and class 4-6 trucks. Its a shame, the only problem CAT motors ever had was they had a tendency to blow turbos and EGR valves. Especially the ACERT C13-15 motors with the twin turbos!
