Loss of power under load

Loss of power under load

Postby GordyH [OP] » Jan 30 2013, 7:32am

Hi everyone.... new to the world of diesel Pickups. 01 Silverado Duramax. First time out with a load. 24' box trailer probably 8 or 9K. Going up hill fine, loses power check engine light on. Stop for a while light off next big hill same thing. I thought I had it, the air filter was plugged and actually collapsed. Replaced that next time out with the trailer same thing..... Fuel filter? I'll go get the codes read tomorrow. Any other ideas?

Catalytic converter. I don't know shit about diesels, but your truck is a couple years old. It is always a possibility.

Get back with us when you get the codes, they will help narrow down the problem.

You're probably losing fuel pressure. It might be a bad fuel pump :(. Those codes should narrow it down...

OK... got the codes.
P0093-Fuel system leak detected, large
P0700-Transmission control system (I think.... can't even read my own writing)
Lesson learned by me... Don't believe the service department where you buy a truck..... check it your self anyway. They told me it had been completely serviced. Like I said the air filter was so plunged it had collapsed and was all domed up, the tranny was 2 1/2 qts low and I have a fuel filter... I'll put in tomorrow.
And funny thing this time. The check engine light stayed on, even when I started up and left this morning.... went right off when I got fuel though.

Any idea why it was 2.5 qts low? That P700 code can only be read by a transmission tech... you should get that checked out to make sure it's not self-destructing on you.

No idea on the fluid loss.... only had the truck a month... gett'n worried. I saw somewhere else a low voltage condition could trigger that code. I picked up the truck, drove it home. When I went to leave it wouldn't start. Turned out one of the batt. connections was only finger tight. Haven't had any starting problems since. Could the code be hanging around from then?

It is possible the code is still there from the previous problem. I would have the codes cleared and see if it comes back.
