New Duramax

Has anyone purchased the "new" Duramax?

New Duramax

Postby gmctruckguy [OP] » Dec 01 2010, 1:03am

Just wondering if anyone has purchased the "new" Duramax trucks and how they were liking them. I have heard they are a real powerhouse but have been unable to get in to test drive one.

The duramax is an amazing engine. I worked there for 5.5 years until i got laid off. Lots of great people who care about what they make..miss those good ol days

Are you talking about the duramax with the allision transmission. I test drove a 2500hd with that combination and when I pushed down on the gas it really moved. But with the weight of the truck it was hard to tell how "great" the set up was. It was a smooth ride and actually surprised me by not "sounding" to much like what I thought a diesel would sound like. Would I buy one? If I had a need, sure. But I don't so I wont. But the truck appeared to be very strong.

i heard through the grapevine that all new diesel motors in any vehicle starting in either 2011 or 2012 have a aditive that is now used in junction with the diesel fuel to help things burn cleaner..just wondering if yours had that as well?

I the big OTR trucks (18 wheelers), they use an additive made of urea that is injected into the fuel. They also use particulate filters in the exhaust systems. International is somewhat different, in that they are not using that additive, but I cannot recall what they are using to get to the EPA mandate for diesel.
It might be the urea additive you are thinking of.

True. This urea assist in burning off the solid carbons that get trapped in the Diesel Exhaust Filter (DEF) Apparently this urea tank will have to be filled every few months. Depending on what kind of a driver you are. I can see new owners deleting this feature. In or out of warranty then putting it back on, appon the sale of their truck.

One of the cool features of the new 20011/12 Silverado and Sierre is the ability to communicate with your truck threw your iPhone. Check your fuel level, tire pressures etc etc.. even start your truck with your phone. And you don't have to be within 100ft of the truck. You could be in a neighboring town and unlock your doors to let your wife into your truck.

It might be the urea additive you are thinking of.

They are using EGR with coolers to lower emissions.
