Silverado 6.6 Diesel Question???

Postby x2paul [OP] » Feb 02 2011, 7:08pm

Can someone with a new body style diesel Silverado help. When I start my truck in the cold weather 35 degrees or colder it takes several minutes for my voltmeter to move from 12 to 14 volts. This only happens from a cold start. If I plug the engine heater in the night before and start it, the meter goes right up to 14. Is this normal? I was thinking there is maybe an engine heater working for a few minutes while the truck is running and this is sucking up the extra voltage. Could someone check their truck from a cold start. Thanks, Paul

You're fine. You really don't even need to plug it in when it's only around 35 unless you just want instant heat when you take off in the morning. Duramaxforum.com has lots of good info man. Not too many Duramax owners here..........

LBZDMAX,
You say I'm fine does your truck do the same. I only plugged my truck in at 35 degrees to see if it made a different. Thanks, Paul

It's the pre-heater in the air intake - when it's cold, it boosts the incoming air temp for better combustion
