EFIlive is the tuning softawre you want, which is loaded onto an "autocal" device. Select your tuner I.e. idaho rob, kory willis etc... they will send you tunes/exhaust based on your requirements on your own personal autocal. The autocal also doubles as a data logger and a code reader/clearer. I recommend madjackdiesel or bamaoffroad. Madjack is better about answering specific questions, they both use Kory Willis tuning. If you contact madjack, mention that I sent you along, it might give you some better pricing.

As far as shifting goes, you really only want to drive aggressively in gears 1-2-3. The upshifts from 3+ and the downshifts from 6- are what are the most abusive to the trans when done aggressively. At stock power, you really can't hurt much. When tuned, you'll have to be slightly more cognizant of your throttle tendencies. The allison TCM is an adaptive one, as such it will need some time to become accustomed to more power, and it doesn't play well with too much power. The TCM can go into a limp mode when abused too much. Down the road, you can look at built transmissions which will toughen the internals up to withstand whatever power levels you desire. 100HP tunes and below are widely considered "tranny safe", but it is a sound practice that once tuned you drive normally but not abusively for the first coupe hundred miles. If you are going to tune, I would suggest you look at a full delete package, it will give you the most gains for your dollar :)

I have a 2004 2500hd Duramax lly with the 5speed Allison with under 90,000 miles on it and I love it. It pulls my 10,000# fifth wheel great!!!

Welcome to the site!! You got a killer model, thats a great style for our Dmaxs. With that mileage, its barely broken in! Still a new truck in Dmax years. Be prepared to spend many hours on the site, tons of information and if you have a question feel free to ask! @workingmanstruck

Great truck. Some things to start looking into would be transfer case and injectors. They start to die around 100K You can find threads about them. Good luck.
