So the 2014 5.3 has 355 HP, that is a 40 HP gain! Thoughts on how they added 40 HP? Guessing maybe a slightly different cam and perhaps they aren't shipping them so toned down (detuned/untuned)? Thoughts?

To take the exact same engine and just change where the fuel is injected in the cyl head will give minimal results. However, when talking GM SIDI system the DI engine is not the same as the non-DI engine. With the newer engine you can have higher compression and more aggressive timing, while increasing HP, lowering emissions and increasing fuel mileage.

GM's been direct injecting quite a few engines in the past many years
