Airbox mod

Re: Airbox mod

Postby ferraiolo1 [OP] » Aug 03 2016, 2:29am

Not sure how it's very subjective. I know the mileage I was getting during my long commutes before and after the intake mods. Which are very similar to everyone else's results with the airraid jr kit. 1-2mpg gain. Wether removing that part of the airbox helped or not who knows.

And sure they would love to, but then you would have every one crying that their truck isn't as quiet as a car because of the intake noise. Like several on here to removed theirs because of the noise.

Even though this setup is not very loud it is noticeable. I could see people complaining about the noise for sure. It's amazing how quiet these trucks are to me....

It is really just a sound upgrade.

Don't you think that GM would LOVE to get an additional 1 or more MPG's with something so simple?
The selling points are marketing gimmicks and you get a better sounding truck....that's all.

Check out BBP, they did some testing on CAI's.
They do show some impressive gains. Especially the stock air box w/ a new intake tube. Which simply subtracts the sound baffles that restrict airflow. Creating more power and less strain on the engine to "suck in air" (if I'm wrong correct me) therefore better MPG's.

The government has regulations on engine noise. So they create "closed" air boxes and sound baffles to reduce the noise, in turn reducing power output.

I'm sure you know all of this. But that seems to be the reason GM did NOT do this mod to the airbox from the factory.

No, removing the large restrictive panel in the lower box.

It's hard to tell from the pics, do you think it might make it more prone to sucking water into the intake in a heavy storm or while off-roading, etc?

No worse than any other CAI you would buy.

Any mod can potentially void your warranty. But considering GM now sells a CAI for over $500, im sure you could fight it If they try and say it does.
