I noticed intake noise diminished a little, but no other gain identified with my tube, exhaust and tune. Now if the noise of intake decreased, I gotta believe it is due to less restriction so the mod does do something positive, but like ferraiolo1 said about tube, pipe and tune. Adding those things as a whole and you get a big result. I haven't sucked up any water and crashed thru some decent puddles with no ill effects. It's a free mod and if less restrictive, it's gotta be positive over the long haul even with an otherwise stock truck.

I did this mod last month on my 2016 Silverado 1500. I love the instant response of from a slight push of the pedal. Seems to get better mileage on my regular road trips. I've tried it with a stock Air Filter and a KN filter. The Mod plus the KN filter definitely makes a difference off the stop light.

Alright guys I'm new to this forum but I've been on here plenty times before as a guest. I got my 2015 recently and I'm ready to start doing some upgrades. I love forums for the ideas and things people try out. Today I got under the hood to check out this airbox "mod." I took that piece out as referred to above and it really doesn't look like it will do anything but allow air from the engine bay to enter instead of just the fender well. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? And as for these "baffles" in the stock air tube to the throttle body. Where are they supposed to be? I stuck my arm in the tube to my elbow and touched the throttle body. It was a straight shot. No baffles all empty space. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing or my truck is set up differently. Im just trying to gain some info on this. My truck is a 2015 1500 ltz z71 with the 5.3l.

Baffles Hang off the stock intake tube. Just look at the tube you will see them. And this mod allows 50% more air into your box. But if you have a bone stock truck it won't do anything. If you have the big three mods it might help a little

I would consider those to be baffles. And how can you say it's 50% more airflow? Its just the piece that has the foam gasket on it. It's not like you are removing half the box. The pieces that are on the sides of the intake tube, how is that restricting airflow? I could defiently see a true baffle restricting flow but all those things are doing are adding more volume to the tube itself along with giving the pcv a place to dump.

Correction. I would not consider those to be baffles.

Airbox mod

Postby ferraiolo1 [OP] » Oct 07 2016, 10:52am

Did you not look at the pics in the beginning of the thread? By removing the front section of the air box you increase the intake size by around 50%. And they are noise baffling chambers. No need to argue it is what it is, if they weren't an issue then there would be no market or need for the airraid intake tube.

Notice stock intake tube baffles or chambers vs air raid.

The restrictions are pretty evident between the two piece OE setup and the single tube replacement.
