Beside the boxes coming off the tubes what is there inside the tube to restrict airflow?

the fact its not a smooth surface area. metered air must first fill those chambers before entering your throttle body. Since you're new I take it you haven't search around this forum too much. there is a plethora of threads on the subject, read around.

This little airbox "mod" was taken from a gm performance page, whether it does anything is debatable, i like the extra intake noise. But the intake tube is proven to help with a little more MPG and throttle response.
Im on a never ending quest to gather up enough pop cans so I can buy a nice extended cab or crew cab, so I don't have to hide my head when im driving this strippy standard cab of mine. So people don't have to feel sorry for me.

Yea I get that. I've done a little reading around about it here but I've looked into cold air intakes into the past. I understand how they work. What threw me off is y'all calling them chambers baffles. Those chambers just make it have less intake pressure I guess you could say, because as you said the metered air has to fill them as well. I'm on the same page as you man.

Long term effects? Curious to see if this is worth it on my 16. Ordering the intake tube shortly.

I think they have been negligible. A little more intake sound which I like though.

So, just to confirm, you just took the lower part of the air filter setup out? I am looking into doing a mod as well and do not want to get a full CAI. Next, I have K&N. Will this work, or will a Dry filter be required? Have you notice any water in the system, once it rained? Thanks

Take off your airbox, you will see the panel that pops out. and no, no issues. Filter doesn't matter.

I used a hole saw and Swiss cheesed the bottom of my stock air box and added a factory replacement k&n filter.
