04 Silverado 1500 Electrical Problem

04 Silverado 1500 Electrical Problem

Postby kenpark04 [OP] » Dec 06 2011, 2:01am

I'm having some crazy electrical problems that I just can't figure out. It started with my ABS and Brake warning lights coming on and off with the warning chime. Then the radio, gauges, and lights started to not turn off when I turned off the truck and opened the door. The door locks now have a mind of their own as does just about everything except the speedo and tach. When it acts up the fuel, oil pressure, coolant temp, and battery gauges die, the DIC reads "driver unknown," all the warning light come on, the warning bell chimes, and the radio shuts off. Then whenever the truck feels like it, it turns everything back on for a few minutes and then rinses and repeats. I have already put a new ignition switch in it and just cleaned the ground connection under the drivers side door. I'm running out of ideas and I have not been able to read anywhere about anyone actually fixing this problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

Usually it is the ground circuit under the seat.

Are you talking about one under the seat in the cab or the one on the frame under the drivers door? Thanks for replying too, I need all the help I can get with this one. I love my truck but right now I want to let Chuck Norris' beard turn it into metal toothpicks.

I took a wire brush and some contact cleaner to it last night and it seemed to be better today. The electrical didn't seem to freak out as much today so I'll try hitting it with the brush and cleaner a few more times and see what happens. Thanks again for the help.

If that don't work may be the BCM. (Body Control Module) ground or the whole unit going bad. I believe its at the base of the steering column just under dash above the brake pedal. Other than checking the connection s. A GM shop will have to check it

I guess it was just luck that it seemed to get better after I cleaned that ground because the truck is acting up just as much as before now. This is so aggravating that I'm just going to leave the truck in the garage until I can get it to someone to look at it.
