06 Chevy Silverado headlight problem

Postby jjtsaints [OP] » Nov 27 2011, 5:40am

Hey everybody, really glad i found this site.

I need help. Not sure what section to post this in. I thought this might be an electrical problem thats why i posted this here.

My headlights are flickering. The flicker while i'm driving at night. I replaced the bulb, and that did not fix the problem.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks

It could be a bad ground. I know Fords have a circuit breaker in their switch and when the switch gets old, it will trip the breaker, causing the lights to go on and off. I don't know if Chevrolet has that in it or not. In the Ford you would have to replace the headlight switch to fix the problem. Has your truck been wrecked before?

Does it do it more when you go over bumps or anything?

Probably has to do with fluctuating output from the alternator. Most likely cause would be a bad diode in the alternator.

Could be a broken headlight mounting bracket/brace allowing the headlight assembly to move during driving that causes the flickering affect or is it possible the headlight assembly was not reinstalled correctly after a bulb replacement?

That is a good point. I assumed you meant the lights actually flickered on and off. Is that what they are doing , or, is it just that they bounce and shake a lot like the housing is not secure?
