'07 Silverado 1500 5.3 electrical problems

Postby BlueX's Tow Pig [OP] » Nov 02 2012, 4:07pm

Posting for a co-worker.

He has a '07 1500 w/ the 5.3 and ever since he changed his battery his truck's electrical has gone crazy.

He has replaced the battery 2x w/ a high end battery not a stock GM one. He also has replaced the Alt and the BCM. He just got the truck back from the dealership and thought it was all fixed. When he was coming back to our site it wouldn't start. He got it started and then on the way home the amps lowered and the truck started flipping out. (lights going on and off, door locks unlocking and locking, etc, etc)

After both of us Google this we found out this was a big problem w/ the '07 5.3s.

Anyone else have this problem? Any way to fix it? He is thinking of getting rid of the truck and never buying GM again.

Thanks!!

Also be sure to verify(not look at) the engine grounds. Poor grounds can make weird things happen...

The dealership told him it had to be either the BCM or the Alt and since he replaced the alt the BCM was replaced. Well that didn't work. Not sure what else to have them look over.

Here is what my co-worker said:

I'm about 90 % sure it's fixed. Changed the negative battery cable and the 175 amp fuse on Saturday afternoon. Drove around town sat. evening and Sunday. Drove it in this morning. All appears to be fine. We''l see how it goes.

When he left work on Friday it didn't start. He got out and fiddled w/ the battery cables around and then it started right up. So I hope that fixes it.
