It seems that I have heard of this problem before, but don't know the exact answer. Hopefully, my giving you one answer will put it into the mainstream on the forum and someone will be able to get you the correct answer. Sorry I can't be of more help.

From what I understand, the passlock system works by sending a pre-set signal/resistance that is stored in the key cylinder to the ECU. Therefore the security system is built into the lock cylinder and not the key which is why you won't find a chip in the key. As long as the key can turn the lock cylinder, the ecu should get the right signal.

You may need to do the "re-learn key procedure" described in your owners' manual. And there's no guarantee that will be just once...

You can try buying the passlock by-pass module for a remote start system and use it to disable the passlock system. $40 is a lot cheaper than the $300+ to replace the sensor.

I assume this would work but don't know if anyone has experience doing this.

Sounds like you have tried the by-pass option -- cutting a wire on the ignition switch, measuring the resistance between it and another wire and soldering a resistor between the two. That idea is a little scary but the least expensive, however it pretty much nullifies the anti-theft abilities of the truck. If you do that and it doesn't work you can always crimp the wire back together in the original set-up and buy the box.

Hope this helps, and good luck with it!
