2012 Silverado, need ignition on/off power source in cab?

2012 Silverado, need ignition on/off power source in cab?

Postby jamoka3 [OP] » Jan 13 2013, 6:27pm

I got a 2012 Silverado Extended cab, LS.
I need to find a fuse / ignition source for power hook, it needs to go off when the truck is off. Its for a 3 way plug-in lighter adapter.
I want to mount it in the back of the cab for the back seat.

I found the fuse block on the driver side front, but what fuse is an ignition on/off fuse? Or even better what wire is off the ignition switch and runs under the sill plate for the doors?

A lil confused, but the dash wires are only like 20guage. I assume you saying a 3way plug that you mean it has 3 OUTLETS. So shouldnt you only use the ignition wire to relay and ACCESSORY such as an amplifier or something ON/OFF and still run a separate 12v power wire. A cigarette/12v plug is able to supply power when the vehicle is off, being a hot wire and a heavier gauge to not melt down from the amps drawn. More so in the case of possibly running 3 electronics off of it. Maybe I'm wrong and the outlet you chose has a relay built on to it so it shuts off?

I'm only going to be running 1 phone charger and a ipod charger, and a radar detector.
I don't think they pull much amps? I could be wrong...

Well as far as I know there is no fuse that works just with your ignition. What I did was use this guide :http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=109163&hl=Retained+Accessory+Power

It helped me out a lot. It's a little bit more work but it's about the only way.

Check this out form the GMT900 Electrical Service Manual
I did not look behind my dash to see if this harness is there, but I will tomorrow and let everyone know in a post in the Electrical Section.

I'm figuring behind radio / HVAC controls. That is where I'm going to look.
Also, My truck is an LS, so it did not come with the console or the jump seat with bottom storage.
However, when I put the console in, I dug around under the carpet on the trans hump and found a 12 volt constant hot for the power outlets for the jump seat / console. So I would say that it is under your carpet as well.

I'm thinking about another "option" too, but I really need to check that out before posting it.

Let you know tomorrow!

Did you find that bundle of wiring? Maybe check the codes in the glovebox to ensure you actually have it?

I used the X-14 connector in the BCM near the brake pedal...takes some really small connectors, but you can tap into there for RAP and ignition on/off. You an search around here for my writeup, or search the web...its a common thing.

Ukjw21 Did you ever find this harness? If you did please tell me where its at I've got some things I want to hook up in the cab of my truck and could really use this. I would just look myself but I dont have a garage to work in and its just to cold for me to attempt this outside now.
