4wd not working

4wd not working

Postby grizz99 [OP] » Aug 18 2013, 9:36pm

So I have a 99 Sierra Z71 and the 4wd was working fine about a month ago. Then one day the service 4wd light came on. I didn't think too much about it because sometimes it would come on and sometimes it wouldn't. I tried testing the 4wd but it wouldn't work. The switch would not do anything. The only light that was on was the 2wd light. I did a little research and determined the switch had probably gone bad. So I got a new switch and replaced the old one. Now the 2wd light and the 4lo light is on at the same time and it won't go into 4wd. All it does is click from the switch. Has anyone had a problem like this before. Thanks.

I've never had a problem like this before, but obviously I would start with te simple things checking the connectors to the transfer case, checking the fues's and relays, and go from there. You may have to run a code reader to pull the 4wd codes to see what its saying

A basic code reader will only pull up P-type engine codes, it may show a P0700 (drivetrain issue) or P1700 (manufacturer specific drivetrain). You need access to a scan tool.

I'd agree to with the post above. The t case motors go bad quite often. Be a good place to start.
