4wd service light

Postby pov1049 [OP] » Jan 01 2013, 11:47pm

I have a 2006 Silverado, 4 wheel drive. I have gotten a "service 4wd" message on the DIC recently. When this message is on, I cannot put the truck into 4wd. The light is illuminated on the selector switch, but nothing happens if I push 4wd high or auto 4wd buttons. I find if I shut the truck off and restart it, the service 4wd message is no longer there, and I can put the truck into 4wd.
Would this be a faulty selector switch, or something else?

Thanks,
Paul

This is a VERY common issue. It is the selector switch. I believe there was a TSB for this, if not a full recall. I would contact the GM Customer Service rep here on the site, and give him your VIN. They can verify if your truck is covered.

Thanks. I have read about the selector switch, and see it has been a problem.
How do I contact the GM customer service rep on this site? I did not see any link. Do you think this may be a recall item?
