I have a 120 amp alternator in my 2007 chevy 2500hd ltz, I have an 8' fisher and the plow drains the battery by just movin it, will the factory option bigger alternator fit right in? And is the plug on the back the same?
When you say drains the battery, do you see the lights dim or your volt meter drop? And when you stop moving the plow does the everything return to normal? To answer your question yes. If you get the factroy up graded one it will just drop right in and plug in .
The most I've seen is halfway between 9 and 14 but it drains so fast just by movin it, and I'm not sure cause the tag on the starter motor is warn off but it is an 8' fisher mm2 if that helps
Might want to get the electrical system tested before you start throwing parts at it. Both my plow trucks run stock systems, and we don't have any power problems, even in the cold. The voltage drops when we use the plows, but it pops right back up again.
This truck doesn't have the plow prep package, my 04 did and ran the same plow fine, that had the 145 amp alternator tho, I'm gonna check all the connections but I'm pretty sure the bigger alternator is the way to go
I would second the checking all connections. If you have a service center near you that can actually test your alt out put while still in the truck, try them first. You could have a weak battery and the alt is trying to charge the battery while running the truck. The other option is the alt has lost half the rectifier so the alt is only charging at half power. I would also recomend getting a second battery under the hood. Wire them up parallel with fuses next to each battery. Also doing the big 3 would help the alt charge.
Actually no that truck only had one battery but it was a 750cca but I put an 850cca in it, I already put a second battery in the 07 and it helped but it still drains, you can't even angle the blade side to side without the guage droppin down low
