Battery Problem

Battery Problem

Postby revival1 [OP] » Feb 15 2011, 11:40pm

Hi
I'm new to the site. I have 2008 Silverado. 2 times the battery drained and the truck wouldn't start. 1st time the lights were on for 5 min. The 2nd time the flashers were on for 30 min. It's hard to jump the truck as well. I had the battery checked and it's fine.
Thanks in Advance,Mark

What do you mean "it's hard to jump the truck"? A jump doesn't help it? Got any electrical items you added to the truck like amplifiers or alarm systems?

Jump it with a vehicle that can supply enough power and with thicker jumper cables. I've had that problem when the wires get too hot and almost melt because they are a very thin gauge wire. With jumper cables, the thicker the wire the better.

Thanks for the replies. The jumper cables are thick. I’ve added radar detector and a GPS to the truck.

also before you try to start the truck while being jumped.. let the other vehicle charge your battery for a few minutes.

Sounds like battery getting a bad cell. If it goes out completely, you can't boost it. Let everyone know what you find out.
Thank you

Believe it or not,if your battery keeps going dead on you there is a problem with the abs pump staying on and draining the battery.2 guys garage on speedtv did a program on that very subject.

I had the same problem with my 99. I had to unplug the ABS harness from the block under the truck so it wouldn't run. Yes it puts the abs light on on the dash but at least i can start it when i want to go somewhere. And i don't miss the ABS function at all. You would think GM would have addressed this problem by now! :? They are building such junk these days. I'll never buy another one. My 79 c10 is way better than my 99. Alot less to go wrong and easier to fix. :) If the abs motor is draining your battery, you can hear it running if you listen for it.

You had the battery tested? Where? Make sure they perform a load test on it. Does your battery gauge read way under 14 when running? If you left your lights on for 5 minutes and it killed your battery you have an issue. I don't think its an ABS issue or your battery would be dead all the time.
