Postby giorider [OP] » Feb 22 2011, 12:56pm

My '06 Sierra lost all warning chime along with front speakers, the other day they happened to start working for a few miles then quit again. Where is this module located ? Anyone else have a similar problem and what is the cure ? Thanks

The chime is part of the vehicle speakers; not a separate sound module. Sounds like you may have an intermittent speaker connection at the head unit.

Is the head unit part of the radio or speaker itself ? Would you know how I would be able to trouble shoot for the source of the problem. Thanks Gio

The head unit refers to the radio. It is an all-encompassing term for your audio player because it is often called a AM/FM Stereo, CD player, Radio, mp3 player, media player, Cassette, 8-track, whatever. It is just easier to say "head unit".

Pull the head unit and check the connections on the back of it. I believe the chime sound comes through the drivers side speaker so maybe it is just that speaker that is blown.

Yeh I thought that might be it but it is both R & L Frt Speakers not working although as I said they all started to work the other day for a short time. I agree and hoping its a loose connection on the head unit. In the good ole days you could reach under the dash and shake things up a little and see what happens, I cant get my pinky passed the ash tray. How difficult is it to pull the radio?
Thanks, Gio

Hey Gio My 2003 did the same thing shortly after I bought it. I lost all audio and chimes, although the radio continued to function (broadcasting station info and I could change stations.) I had a blown fuse in the fuse box under the hood. I change it and never had a problem since. Maybe you would want to check before pulling the head unit.

I considered that might be the prob but could not find which fuse it might be other then the one marked radio which was fine when I checked. Now just today the sucker started chiming its butt off however the left front speaker was working the right not so lucky back speakers are happy as can be. I hate to have to pull door panels off you know how that goes any advice on that procedure. Thanks Gio

Do you have an OEM (factory) radio, or aftermarket? With aftermarket radios, the problem is often the wiring harness kit. I had constant issues in my old truck.

Yes factory radio. The rear speakers work, when I loose the chime both front speakers do not work, when I regain chime the left front works along with the rear but right door speaker dead. Gremlins ???
Thanks, Gio

Since both front speakers go out, it's unlikely that both speakers are bad. I would check the head unit first. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, a qualified audio shop could do it for you. But my guess is that's the issue.
