Cold Gauges?

Postby Mudduck [OP] » Dec 11 2010, 1:21am

I just got into a 2005 Z71 5.3L and my gauges are allergic to the cold.? Anytime it's in the 40's or lower, the speedo, gas, water temp, and fuel gauges don't work. The others seem to be fine. It's not always all four gauges at once. It can be any combination of them. Then once it warms up a bit, (outside temp), they work again. Weird!!! Has anyone ever heard of this before? If so . . . What the "H"? Thanks for any info.

hmm i wonder if you have a power wire thats under tension with a slight break in the wire but not the plastic coating. so when the temperature drops the copper contracts losing the connecton...

My mother-n-law is now having the same prob. now but only with the oil and fuel. Stealership said it was the sending unit and replaced it but its still the same. When I find out more I will let ya know.

I know a guy that had a similar problem... but it was a moisture problem in his gauges.
He restored a submerged truck. He bought a truck that fell through the ice the year before.

Gauges were frozen every morning the following winter. Then gave false readings after they thawed.

Not sure if this helped, but I just had to share that

I know the truck lived its previous life in Arizona so I can rule out the ice boat. I haven't seen any moisture behind the glass. And thanks for the sending unit info thats one thing I can cross off the list. I'm leary bout takin' it to the dealer cause I just seem to get the run around. I get a whole list of new parts but no solution to the prob. Thanks for the ideas and I'll keep ya posted.
