I saw a post on a 00-01 and older models, but does anyone know how to keep the daytime running lights from turning on? I know how to turn them off every time I start the truck, but what a pain. I am installing HID lights and aftermarket head lamps with projector low beams. I don't want my HID's burning out so fast because they are on all day long! On the 2010, the "low beam" lights are the daytime running lights, so I can't just kill them all together.
I'm also looking at the projector headlamps, but I'm not sure about the DRL, it would be nice to wire the DRL to the LED Halo's or something like that instead of the HID kit. Let me know if you have any luck with it, I'm sure you'll get it all before me! HAHA
im not sure how the 2010's are set up but try lookin in the fuse boxes for a DTRL fuse or relay, if it has one pop it out lol, if not then that means gm is going to all computer controlled lights like ford lol
Hmm. I took 48 seconds and found this answer using the owners manual that is available on this site.
To turn off the DRL lamps, turn the exterior lamps
control to the OFF position and then release.
For vehicles first sold in Canada, the transmission
must be in the P (Park) position, before the DRL lamps
can be turned off.
I hope this helps.
On my '08 Silverado, there are 2 fuses in the fuse box under the hood. I pulled fuses #31 and #33 ... and that shut the DRL system off without affecting the regular lighting. The fuses -- not relays -- are labeled "DRL" so it was easy to find!
Okay, so I haven't looked yet, but is the wire for DRL separate from the rest in the wiring harness? If/when I put in projectors I want to put the DRL onto the LED's.
Seems like I may be disabling them all together just like TDImark and wiring a separate 12v system to power the LED's or Halo's whichever projector system I buy.
I won't ask why you want the DRL's off permanently, but you do realize that you get an insurance reduction for having them, don't you? It's been proven that a higher percentage of accidents happen to vehicles without them as opposed to with them. I, for one, recognize an oncoming vehicle a lot easier and sooner, if it has DRL's. I even bought a kit from NAPA to put them in my daughter's 93 Sierra. Stick with them. It may keep you from one less accident!
he's puttin HID's in, and the DRL's will most likely cause the bulbs to flicker a bit, since the DRL's are a lower voltage than the main headlight, and also would cause a shorter bulb life
DRL's are not lower voltage. They run a series circuit through both bulbs and use the increased resistance to give you the dimmer, reduced energy mode.
Without going into a long discussion on how ALL manufacturers design DRL circuits; some DRL systems actually use the high beam filaments of the main headlights, operated as a series circuit. Sorry I wasn't clear on that fact with my answer earlier today.
I just did this mod and it works great. I made the parking/turn lamps my DRL's and my low beams (HID) are off .
I did change this mod up a bit... I put all the diodes and such in a small box and attached it to the spare batt. holder.

has anyone ever looked into reprogramming the bcm module to use the marker lights instead of the low beam headlights ?
i believe the drl control is through the bcm module.at least that is what the electrical schematic looks like. j.m.o.
i am using hid's as well and live in canada. drl 's is a must up here.there is enough vehicles that use the parking lights // signal lights as drl's. they are certainly bright enough.
any help would be greatly apprechiated.
cheers

If you're looking at the diagram for the 2011, the BCM just activates the DRL relay, which supplies power through the DRL fuse to the low beams. You could remove the DRL2 fuse, plug a wire into the side from the relay and tie that into the parking light circuit at one of the park light fuses.
but then how do i turn on the low beams // auto turn on ... when they are supposed to be on ? the circuit from the bcm to the relay no longer is valid. and if you say through the switch then my reply would be it is triggered through the bcm anyway. hence no connection.
just a thought.
Day time running lights 2008 Silverado stopped working but there is power to both sides of the fuse and I have no idea where the DRL relay is.
The automatic light sensor is working.
