Door Locks Not working...

Postby mbreener [OP] » Oct 07 2011, 9:52pm

Did a quick search, but didn't find anything so here goes. Went to get into the truck last week and noticed the door lock switch wasn't working and there was also an electrical burning smell. So, first thought was to disconnect the battery. Then I investigated the smell. Seemed to be coming from the door lock switch. So I disconnected the switch for the night. Hooked it and the battery up the next day and still not working but not burning this time. Checked all the fuses and replaced all the relays. Replaced the switch and still nothing. Found one 15A fuse right above the two Door lock relays that does not get power. Followed the wires back to the switch itself and to the BCM and seemed to have good connections so my only thought is that the BCM might be the source of my problem? Windows and everything else work fine. Any suggestions or other help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you check all the fuses? Under the hood also and the side dash?

As far as I know.. Are there any that control the door locks under the hood? I didn't see any but maybe I missed one?

Not sure, but lots of stuff gets power from other fuses. Never hurts to check.

I've decided to put a jumper in the fuse box to see what powering that fuse does for me. Thanks for the help guys. I'll post up what I find.

okay i run an electrical shop, stereo shop, alarm shop, of course all in one. But okay the burning smell is common when a diode overheats and burns up. Not quite sure everything you checked. But there is about six diodes in the unlock/lock switch. If one burns out the whole switch is scrap. You can unplug the switch and take a jumper wire and jump the wires, for a lock current, then an unlock current. If you recieve power and it does lock/unlock, then most likely it is the switch. Try that and let me know, I will trouble shoot for you to get it fixed, since you own a GM, if it was a ford. I would have to charge you. LOL

Ha. Alright. I'll give it a try when I get home from work today and let you know. Thanks for the help. If I drove a Ford I'm pretty sure the door locks would be the least of my worries. lol
