DRL (Daylight running lights)

Postby Kullan [OP] » Aug 21 2010, 7:21am

I replaced both bulbs today for the first time in about 2 years. They used to burn out all the time and I got sick of replacing them so I just stopped. Today I had some extra cash and decided to replace the bulbs....Well they didn't light up! I checked all the fuses and replaced one relay which didn't help. Is there anything else I might be able to check? Oh my remote key-less entry fobs don't work either....yes I put new batteries in them, but they still don't work...any suggestions?

I would have replied if I could have helped, but what did you do to fix them?

Thank you.....I basically forgot that the truck had to be in Drive mode for them to light up and it also has to be daylight! I replaced the bulbs at night and at first, I couldn't figure out why they didn't come on.....The next day I saw them ON from a reflection off of a car in front of me... It was just a stupid thing....I haven't payed close enough attention to them in the past 2 or 3 years and I forgot when they actually came on....It's all good! Thanks!
>>>>Now I am having a fuel pump problem....$300 to replace it and my labor time.....ugh:)

Re: DRL (Daylight running lights)

My old battery died. While it was weak, I noticed what seemed to be strange behavior with the lights. During darkness, while the truck is off and parked, the blue high beam indicator on the dash stays on all the time except when I open the door or start the motor. The daytime running lights do not come on at all at any time. Sometimes during daylight the low beams come on automatically and with the front parking and rear taillights just as they would at night. The interior map and dome lights are doing bizarre things. Both dash buttons either alternate at turning all of them on or off, or no matter which dash buttons are pushed, no interior lights will come on. A good new battery is in the truck now. The alternator checked out okay when the new battery was installed, but the issues with the high beam indicator staying on during darkness when the truck is off continue as does the interior lighting weirdness, and I still have no DRLs. My regular driving lights come on automatically when it’s dark as they should. Any comments or ideas on what's wrong and what probably needs repair/replacement :?:

No. I was getting no responses, so I reposted here: Lighting problems began with weak battery and persist
The suggestions didn't help. I checked other sites and found that this is a common issue with 2003-2005 GM pickups. I have a friend who has a 2003 Sierra with the same problem only in a more advanced stage of dysfunction. I emailed Chevrolet. Their response was that recalls are by VIN and that they don't have a recall for the instrument cluster for my VIN. I encourage you to write to Chevrolet as well because there needs to be more pressure on them regarding a known issue that is common. Also, I suggest filing a complaint with the U.S. DOT. The following site has a place under the Consumer Opinions tab to file the complaint: http://www.mycarstats.com/reports/chevr ... aints.aspx
If you register on that site, you can look at a Car Report Viewer for your truck where you will see that others have complained about this same problem. Here are some more links that might interest you: http://speedometergaugerepair.com/index.html
