I have a 2009 5.3L Silverado with empty battery tray for 2nd battery on drivers side front behind headlight. Has anyone done this successfully using an electronic isolator to charge both batteries as needed without one drawing done the other? Please send pics and instructions.

I haven't set up a second battery in my truck but I've run a second battery before. Just slap another battery in your tray and run one of these battery isolators and you're set.



It isolates the two batteries from each other and maintains them both, meaning it will provide juice to which ever is running lower than the other. It is pretty awesome and I highly recommend doing this if you are needing some extra power.

I found DB Electrical when I was searching for an isolator on ebay. Their prices are the lowest I've seen and their products seem to be pretty good. I also have a 200amp alternator from them.

Thanks for the post, Peter. I've also been considering running a second battery. An isolator and 2nd battery seems like the way to go if you're going to run roof lights, a winch, high-end audio, or anything else that draws a lot of current and puts a strain on your alternator.

Just a heads up. Much better batteries are available today with Glass mat technology. They offer more reserve power and handle vibration and high underhood temperatures much better. One exceptionally good battery might be better than hauling around two batteries. Check out the Sears Diehard battery with this technology. Consumers reports magazine tested a number of automotive batteries in the last year or so and they gave the Sears battery the green flag (costs about 180 bucks though) as well as other standard batteries, such as the NAPA 84 for less than 90 bucks!

This is my 2nd, 3rd ,or 4th mod! I Cant stop! Or get the marine battery if you dont want two battery. Same as having two batt.
