I got a tricky problem... My stock Delphi alternator's bearings were out and it was making alot of noise... So i ventured out on clist and a guy had a bunch of parts from an 04. I got an alternator (which is an ac delco but same amps and connections), all 4 headlights, and 3rd brake light for $100. Now the bearings in this alternator are silent so i put it in the truck. It is silent, and i can actally hear my engine for once!
No here is the issue, the batt. light will turn on and off at random intervals ( i.e. 5 sec on, 3 off, then 30 on 1 off... ect) and it says battery not charging. So i brought it to o'riley and had them test it in the truck and it was charging PERFECTLY! then i took it off to have the big machine test it and again PERFECT! so i put it on and still, the annoying light and message. I unhooked battery, thinking it would reset but it didnt work. Still, random timing and message.
There was one thing however, me being impatient, i accidentally touched the hot terminal on the alternator to the mount causing it to arc when i was plugging in the plug...
Did that blow a fuse causing the error message? or could it be the alt. plug for on/off wires? Am i overlooking somthing?
PLEASE HELP!
